About
the Colt 45's AIDS TroubleFund
The AIDS TroubleFund provides emergency and temporary financial
assistance to persons on disability with AIDS who are financially unable to meet their
basic obligations for the necessities of life. Through payments made directly to the
service provider, grants are made to help with rent and utilities. Our confidential client list is never shared by anyone outside of the AIDS
TroubleFund Committee and our volunteer Community Advisory Board. These two committees
work cooperatively and simultaneously every Tuesday evening to distribute our service
grants to people living with AIDS, 52 weeks a year.
The AIDS TroubleFund is the "charity of last resort" that
PWA's in Houston have come to rely upon when those agencies that receive governmental
funds have run out of money. ATF is not assisted living. It is a fund to help
PWA's in a time of need, and to get back on their feet. Due to the dramatic reduction of AIDS deaths, we
maintain the fund to help PWA with quality of life issues.
The AIDS TroubleFund addresses the obvious needs of those people living on disability
with AIDS on a very limited amount of money, but with living expenses that clearly exceed
their restricted budgets. By making payments directly to the service provider, we can
ensure direct client assistance. We have always been there with money for
rent and utilities after the other AIDS agencies have run out of funds, and PWA's in
Houston have come to rely upon (and respect) The Colt 45's for this. The Colt 45's AIDS
TroubleFund has distributed approximately hundreds of thousands of dollars in direct
assistance to a client group whose number exceeds 1,500 persons on disability with
AIDS over the years.

The
AIDS TroubleFund Community Advisory Board
The AIDS TroubleFund itself is governed by the bylaws and rules set forth by The Colt
45's Inc., and in accordance with Federal tax laws set under our 501(c)(3) charter.
Financial assistance from this fund is granted by joint cooperation of two committees that
meet cooperatively and simultaneously each Tuesday evening, 52 weeks a year. The AIDS
TroubleFund Chairman, a member of the Colt 45's (nominated by the President and approved
by the membership) oversees the activities of the two committees. The first committee is
comprised of members of The Colt 45's. The second committee is made up of community
leaders interested in our cause. This is the AIDS TroubleFund Community Advisory Board.
Positions on the AIDS TroubleFund Community Advisory Board are entirely voluntary in
nature, and no remuneration of any kind is ever given to the members of the Board, or to
members of The Colt 45's for their work with this Fund. Doctors, distinguished community
leaders, and other persons who are interested in helping people with AIDS are currently
members of the AIDS TroubleFund Community Advisory Board. The Community Advisory Board and
The AIDS TroubleFund Committee meet every Tuesday evening at 7:00pm at the Brazos River Bottom, upstairs, in the offices of
The Colt 45's.

The
AIDS TroubleFund Application Process
Due to the overwhelming need of the Houston community for this fund, very exacting
rules and procedures must be followed before assistance can be given from the AIDS
TroubleFund. After the application has been received, it is then reviewed by the Colt
45's AIDS TroubleFund Committee and The AIDS TroubleFund Community Advisory Board.
Recommendations are then given and the client is contacted regarding these
recommendations. All decisions of The Colt 45's Inc. are final.
Below is a portion of the Application for Assistance to the Colt 45's AIDS
TroubleFund.
Please read the list of requirements and procedures below before you or someone you know
submits an application. Most applications are turned down because a portion of the
application was not filled in properly, proper documentation was not given, or because
they do not qualify for the fund. Only persons diagnosed with AIDS and currently on
disability are eligible.
If *you* know someone in the Houston area who qualifies and is in need of assistance
from the Colt 45's AIDS TroubleFund, please call (713) 526-6077 or write ATF@colt45s.org
to find out where they can pick up an
application for assistance.
